Container Water Garden Workshop

By: Dorothy Martinez

Are you interested in water gardening, but don’t have a pond? Live in an apartment or don’t have a large yard? No problem, you can still have the added enjoyment of having a water feature with a Container Water Garden.

The Colorado Water Garden Society has teamed up The Hudson Gardens & Event Center to host a Container Water Garden Workshop.

The Workshop will take place at The Overlook pavilion (located just to the south of the South Lawn) within Hudson Gardens on Saturday, June 15th from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm.

I am the Lead Water Garden Volunteer at Hudson Gardens as well as a Board member of the Colorado Water Garden Society. Please join us for this Workshop as we guide you in creating your very own Container Water Garden to take home! Participants will be able to choose from plants including 1 miniature waterlily and 2 other aquatic plants of their choosing.

Register now as the class will be limited to 25 participants. The cutoff to register for this class will be May 30th, as we need time to order the plants for the Workshop.

The registration fee for CWGS Members/Residents of South Suburban Parks & Recreation (SSPRD) will be $50 and $55 for Non-Members/Non-Residents of SSPRD.

To register for this class, please go to:

Cancellation of 2024 Pond Tour

By: Dennis Weatherman

Unless we can find more participants for this year’s Pond Tour, we are going to have to cancel it. Unfortunately, the 2024 CWGS Pond Tour will probably not happen this July as is our tradition. As of the writing of this article, we have 3 maybe 4 stops for the Tour. This is not nearly enough ponds to make it enjoyable for visitors or worthwhile to conduct.

The plan was to tour the Northeast metro area, so if anyone in this area (Northglenn, Thornton, Westminster, Erie, Dacono, Commerce City, and Brighton) is still interested in participating, please let us know and maybe we can make it happen, or we will plan for bigger and better in July 2025.

We can save the Tour if we can find more members willing to participate. To make the Tour successful, we need a minimum of 8 participants, but would prefer about 10 participants. We don’t turn people down because of pond size or type. If you have a big pond, little pond, pond-less feature (waterfall), or container gardens, all are welcome on the Tour.

In order for the Tour to go on, we will need to hear from you no later than June 15, 2024.

The main requirement to meet is allowing visitors access to your water feature on the day of the Tour. CWGS will provide signage, addresses, directions, and quality visitors to view your water feature. No one will disturb your foliage or leave trash in your yard. Pictures are generally allowed.

This is a chance to impart how water features bring enjoyment to your home, allow you to share ideas, troubleshoot problems, share stories, trials, and tribulations. A bonus is participation in the Tour builds fellowship with like-minded folks.

And of course, after the Tour is the CWGS Picnic, it costs $5 per person to cover food costs. We supply drinks, but you are free to bring your own if you want. Menu varies, but it usually consists of grilled burgers, hot dogs, and sometimes brats or Italian sausages. Also included are burger fixings, potato salad, and chips.

If you are interested in being part of the Tour, or know a neighbor that might be, please send me or Dorothy Martinez an email ASAP. You can reach me at dweatherman@msn.com or Dorothy at dam@johnfunk.com. You can also call Dorothy at (303) 279-3137. We check email daily as well as check mail sent to the spam folder, so we don’t miss emails sent our way. We’d love to have a Tour this year, but desperately need participants!
